Call of Duty (COD) Vanguard Error code CE-34878-0: How to fix it?

Call of Duty Vanguard was released on 5th of November 2021, developed by Sledgehammer Games and published by Activision. It is available on Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. It is the 18th installment to the first-person shooter franchise. Vanguard, like previous games in the series, has both single-player and multiplayer modes. The game offers cross console and generation play. It will also have integration with Call of Duty: Warzone.

The “CE-34878-0” Error Fix

Many have acquired the game in hopes that it lives up to it’s legacy. However, as every game’s initial launch, it has quite a few bugs. One of these bugs causes a crash with an error message “CE-34878-0” or “An error has occurred with an application or system softwareon the Play Station. It is a common error on PS4, across many games. Generally caused by PS4 corrupted data or some system software issues. This is usually dealt with restarting/re-downloading the Game. However, some players have experienced repeated error messages on repeat, to which we have a solution to.

Here are the steps to Solve this Error:

To avoid this error, Activision has recommended that we Update the Play Station and the Game to the latest version.

Follow the steps below to update your Play Station:

  1. Open the Play Station Home Screen.
  2. Open the Settings Menu from the Home Screen
  3. Select System Software Updates For PS4. [For PS5 it is System Software -> System Software Update and Settings -> Update System Software].
  4. Install any Updates [Incase updates wont work despite being available, try it on Safe Mode and clear Notifications].

Incase this does not work, you can also try clearing cache forcefully:

  1. Turn your PlayStation 5 off completely.[Dont enter Rest Mode and wait until the lights have fully turned off.]
  2. Remove the power cord from the PlayStation 5’s rear.
  3. Allow one to two minutes for the process to complete.
  4. Reconnect the power cord to your PlayStation 5.
  5. Turn on your PlayStation 5.

You can also remove any PS Cameras that are attached to the system, reboot it, and then disable Enable Face Recognition.

  1. Select Settings from the PlayStation 4 home screen.
  2. Choose a user.
  3. Choose Login Options.
  4. Uncheck the box next to Enable Face Recognition.

If your console’s HDD has been updated, reinstall the original HDD, which might help.

  1. If the problem recurs, make a backup of your stored data and then:
  2. Select Settings from the PlayStation 4 home screen.
  3. Select the Initialization option -> PS4 Initialize.
