Is Mobile Legends Shutting Down in 2023?

MOBAs have been seeing a rise in the South and South East Asian markets. In mobile, that’s even more noticeable. Titles like Honor of Kings, Wild Rift, Arena of Valor, Onmyoji Arena, and Mobile Legends are constantly in the most downloaded and earning charts. This is understandable due to the rise of powerful chipset-backed smartphones available at a cheap cost along with the low cost of the Internet.

Moving aside from that tangent, MOBAs became quite popular due to their competitiveness and ease to learn but hard-to-master mechanics. Of all the available games right now, Mobile Legend Band Bang can be regarded as the most successful in the global mobile MOBA market. That title could be challenged by Honor of Kings, but due to it being China-exclusive at the time of writing this article, MBLL takes the crown. But how long could it hold the crown on its own? Rumors have been flying around about the game shutting down in 2023. Is it true? Let’s find out!!

Is Mobile Legends Shutting Down in 2023?

Moonton, the developers behind Mobile Legends, has not expressed any desire about shutting the game down in 2023 or any year for that matter. While it is true that the game has suffered from lawsuits by Riot, over the game’s likeness to League of Legends, Moonton doesn’t have had to worry about closing the game. Mobile Legends is massive with a global appeal dwarfed only by the likes of Genshin Impact, COD, and Apex Legends. It doesn’t have a dwindling player base to merit a shutdown and the most important point – it turns balance sheets green.

Another reason for the game not closing its doors anytime soon is the company that owns it. Although Moonton has control over the game, it is a subsidiary of ByteDance. And you know what else ByteDance owns? Tiktok. That’s right. ByteDance has authority over Tiktok and MBLL. So, you can leave your worries about the game going over to the graveyard for several more years. As long as it produces green, no end-of-service notification will be seen. If you want to worry about something, worry about the next patch and who Moonton’s going to buff and nerf.
