Thus, Pokemon Go was born, an augmented reality game where you could catch various Pokemon using your mobile anywhere. The game has come a long way since its initial release in 2016 and continues to do well financially along with an ever-growing fan base. Niantic, the developers behind Pokemon Go don’t have any plans for shutting down the game in 2023. Plus, it’s not a decision that they can solely make. Remember, Pokemon Go is a collaboration between Niantic and The Pokemon Company. For the game to end, both companies would have to find a concrete reason to agree and finalize the shutting down of the game.
Apart from the previously said reason, shutting down the game right now wouldn’t make any sense at all. The leadership at both companies would have to be out of their minds to even think about that. Since its release, the game has garnered a huge following all over the world while pumping out obscene amounts of revenue. Pokemon isn’t simply a gaming franchise. It is a media franchise. One so big and influential that even mediocre games developed by Game Freak,(which mind you, it has been doing since mainline games embraced 3D), sell like hotcakes no matter how buggy or horrible a game is. Compared to that, Pokemon Go is a masterpiece that doesn’t even consume that many resources in producing. So, you can set aside your worries for now and rather worry about catching that one pokemon you wish you had.
