The Cruel King and Great Hero borrows similar theme and gameplay mechanics from Japanese-style RPG games and further improve upon them. Developed by NIS Studio and illustrated by Sayaka Oda, who’s famous for his works on Blind Prince and The liar princess. The game is set to release on Playstation 4 and Nintendo Switch in early 2022. Like Final Fantasy, the game shares similar turn-based combat and is described as a “brand new tale” with a “picturebook esque design“. The story revolves around a young girl named “Yuu” who embarks on her journey to defeat the demon king and aspire to be like her father. Who was also a great hero from the legends?
Yuu will have to fight monsters and roam through harsh environments and in her journey. She’ll meet her companions who will also aid in their journey. The Demon King
Once known as a fearsome existence, he’s the king of the monsters and Yuu’s foster father. Feared by everyone in the continent, he was defeated by Hero and turned over a new leaf. He raises and nurtures Yuu into becoming a great hero by training her and watching over her. As the demon king was defeated, the hero severed his horns and wounded him. The hero stayed with him and they became best friends and since the Demon King was watching over the hero’s daughter.
Yuu
Daughter of the legendary hero, she was inspired to become a Hero after hearing numerous stories about her father. Following his footsteps and taking over his legacy. Little does she know that the Demon King was once her father’s enemy who once fought against him in the past.
Rocky
A cute creature from the snow tribe, he lives in Crystal Moon Hill and adores his family, including his siblings. In the later part of the story, Yuu aids him with a grave family crisis.
Cybat
Cybat is a one-eyed raccoon-type creature who serves the Demon King. His Mischievous and troublesome behavior always lands him in trouble more than he bargained for. Proficient in juggling knives, he holds a great amount of respect towards the once might Demon King.
Flora
Flora is one of the princesses of human kingdoms. She aims to guide the fearful citizens who still struggle to recover from the horrible misdeeds, inflicted by the Demon King.
