What Does LHR Mean in GPU?

The GPU market is currently suffering from a chip shortage problem. And this isn’t just limited to GPUs only. Even the console sector has been unable to output larger stocks thanks to less material availability. This situation was especially dire during the pandemic. However, it has been curbed at some length but not fully.

The shortage didn’t stop GPU makers from launching their new generation of graphic cards, however. Nvidia debuted the 4000 series of graphic cards this year with AMD also releasing the new line of 7000 series cards. Out of the blue, Intel also decided to test the waters by launching the Intel Arc Series. Suffice it to say the competition is going to be tough in the upcoming years for the manufacturers.

What Does LHR Mean in GPU?

It’s getting tough for most people to know about all the ongoing and upcoming tech sprouting out every day. Now, there’s a new tech called LHR in the GPU market. So, what is it about? Well, LHR stands for Lite Hash Rate. And if you haven’t guessed by now, it’s related to crypto technology.

Nvidia introduced the Lite Hash Rate technology to curb the ongoing GPU mining. Lots of GPUs in the market right now are being bought by miners to use for crypto-mining purposes. And is especially prevalent in Ethereum mining. So, in order to stop this, Nvidia introduced the LHR tech which automatically detects if the GPU is being used for Ethereum mining. If the GPU happens to be doing so, it will go on to halve the hash rate.

By doing so, miners will be unable to earn any substantial profit for them compared to the power they are using to run the GPU. Currently, only Nvidia graphic cards include LHR technology, as of now. Specifically, the 3000 series. Also if you are worried about LHR affecting GPU performance or gaming in general, don’t worry. Your GPU will be fine.
