FSR 3 Steam Deck Release Date: When it will be available

FSR 3 is the next evolution of AMD’s FidelityFX Super Resolution and a competitor to NVIDIA’s own DLSS 3. Like FSR2, FSR3 also comes with a lot of exciting features that will improve your gaming experience, and the best among all is the introduction of Frame Generation, a feature previously limited to the DLSS 3 on current RTX 40-series cards. Aside from that, FSR3 also introduces frame interpolation and a native Anti-Aliasing Quality Mode. Suffice it to say, it’s pretty hyped and something a lot of people want. And among those people are Steam Deck users.

For the Steam Deck, which boasts a less powerful chipset compared to what the ROG Ally and Lenovo Legion Go come with, the FSR 3 will be a game-changer. Being able to run games with more fps than what the Deck users get right now is something every Steam Deck user wants. So, when is FSR 3 releasing for the Steam Deck? Well, continue reading to find out.

FSR 3 Steam Deck Release Date: When it will be available

FSR 3 is already available on the Steam Deck; however, so far, it’s not looking good. Currently, FSR 3 is only available for Forspoken and Immortals of Aveum. And in case you didn’t know, both of these are quite resource-heavy, especially Forspoken. From what Steam Deck users have tested so far, turning on FSR 3 with Frame Gen on Forspoken isn’t recommended at all due to the horrendous graphical issue. Immortals of Aveum, on the other hand, is playable with FSR 3 but it’s highly recommended to turn off Frame Gen.

Many players have also tried FSR 3 on other games by dual-booting Windows on their Deck. As you can see here, using an FSR3 mod, this user was able to double their FPS in Cyberpunk 2077. FSR 3 is supported by a varied amount of architecture, including NVIDIA GeForce RTX 20, 30, and 40 series cards. From AMD’s side, RDNA 1, 2, and 3 architecture-based GPUs are supported for FSR 3. Although AMD recommends using RDNA 2 and 3.
The Steam Deck uses the RDNA 2 APU, so it is indeed supported. But don’t get your hopes up this early. Frame Generation, the best feature of FSR 3, can only be utilized best when a game is running at a minimum of 60FPS. While lower fps is indeed supported, the effects of Frame Generation will be less impactful.

FSR 3 is still in its early stages, so Steam Deck users will have to wait a while before they can see any substantial changes. At Gamescom 2023, AMD announced FSR 3 support for a lot of titles, including upcoming ones. Games like EVE Online, Cyberpunk 2077, Crimson Desert, Space Marine II, and many more will be playable with FSR 3. So, for now, all you have to do is wait until more games start including FSR 3.
